Blood is ticker than water...

so some people say that the quote blood is thicker than water is a bastardization of the much longer and “accurate” quote the blood of the convenant is thicker than the water of the womb.

To be frank, I’m not an etymologist & I couldn’t tell you who is lying here however my brief research told me one of the two was much older, I would wager that the older one would be the right one.

That said, I’m in favor of the newer one since I am much in favor of its meaning, the concept that your chosen bonds are much more significant than those of which you were born with is something that I suspect I desperately hope is true. In the sense that you’re blood, family, is stuck with you wether you get a good one or not, wether you like your family or not it doesn’t change it they are for better or worse tied to you inextricably.

More often than not, people tend to be good to family cuz well its family right, gotta have each other’s back or something to that effect. Of course there is still a choice to be made there after all there are people with families that make life a whole more difficult to live.

As to why I am in favor of chosen bonds is, I suppose because there is more of an active component and there is some level of agency. Like I said up-top, family are more or less compelled to treat you well to some extent by virtue of being related.

Chosen family and friends on the other-hand are people will choose to meet us where we are and well as the name
